Collaborative Maths age 10+

The session starts by practising mental arithmetic skills in a fun game. This is followed by a collaborative approach to solving problems. The children democratically choose from a selection of real and fantasy statements. The chosen statement is then explored and the children compile a list of all the information needed to tackle the problem. The tutor sources the information during the interim days between Tuesdays and then over the month the children discuss the collected information and process it to discover the ways that the problem can be solved. This session is about discovering that Maths is everywhere and that there are Mathematical conventions that can be used to simplify the way we solve problems.
