For Parents
How do I book?
As this is a community of friends, I am personally in touch with everyone that gets involved. So the only way to book is to email me on admin@whelc.org.uk or beccleshomeedtutoringsessions@yahoo.com. Only on receipt of payment is a booking confirmed.
How do I pay?
Payment is via information given on an email from me personally. If you have any request for an email that doesn’t mention something personally to you, or come from me, please don’t pay.
Can we try before we buy?
It isn’t possible to come for free, but it is possible to just come for one session to see if you like the group, the tutor, the centre and the session.
Do I have to commit to a term?
No. Sessions can be bought on a flexible basis up to two days before, so payment needs to be in on the Sunday before the Tuesday sessions. However, if you do come regularly it is worth becoming a Regular Family as then your commitment is rewarded by receiving a share of any surplus money at the end of a three month block.
Can I drop my child off?
Yes, although the tutors are only responsible for your child during the 50 minute session. Parents are responsible for their children during the 10 minute breaks.
Can I stay?
Yes, there is space to find a seat and have a cuppa on me. There are spaces to disappear off and get some work done too if you wish – the massive cupboard at the end of the corridor is probably the best place for this although it has no windows.
Can I bring younger siblings?
Yes, you can bring younger siblings. There is a small foyer to wait and when the weather is good, there is a large play area outside.
Can I accompany my child in the session?
It is generally accepted that the only adult in the room is the tutor. It can become difficult for some children to feel comfortable if there are other adults in the room that they do not know. However, there are always exceptions so do ask.
When does my child eat?
Up to you! These sessions need to be thought of as independent tutoring events albeit a heap of them all on one day with different tutors. You pick and choose the sessions to suit your planning for your day. Children usually have snacks with them if they stay for more than one session, and then they have a pick at these during the 10 minutes break between sessions. It’s not usual for children to sit munching during the tutored sessions as they tend to get quite involved and busy, but if a child is hungry and needing sustenance, then they eat. We have no strict rules about things like that – we just want the children to be happy.
For Tutors
When do I get paid?
I rely on parents to give me their share of the payment before I can pass it on to tutors but the aim is to pay the tutors a month ahead. All payments are accompanied with an email explaining the payment. At the end of the three months, there could be a bonus payment if you have had more children join your group on an ad hoc basis through the 3 months.
What happens if I need to cancel?
Please let the families and myself know asap if you cannot tutor a session that you have been booked for. Payment needs to be returned to me as soon as convenient so that parents can be refunded.
