Chow mein recipe

Ingredients

  • Root ginger grated
  • Garlic clove crushed
  • 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • Half red pepper sliced
  • 2 spring onions
  • 50g bean sprouts
  • ½ chicken breast in small pieces
  • 1 nest egg noodles
  • oil

Equipment

  • Chopping board
  • Medium frying pan
  • Medium/small saucepan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Dishcloth
  • Teatowel
  • Tupperware
  • Tongs if you have them
  • Chopsticks to eat with

Method

Mix together grated ginger, crushed garlic, ketchup, oyster sauce, soy sauce and 2 tbsp water.  

Put boiling water in saucepan, drop in noodles, simmer 4 mins then drain and toss in scant oil.

Heat frying pan and when hot add oil and fry chicken breast pieces, turning.  Add pepper and fry for 1 min.  Add sauce and bubble.  Add noodles, beansprouts and spring onions and toss until covered in sauce – helpful to use tongs for this.  Serve and attempt to eat with chopsticks. Yum!
